With a heavy heart, we have taken the decision to cancel the 12th European Lupus Congress.
Many speakers and participants – understandably – cannot travel to Bruges, mainly because of travel bans imposed by their university or country.
Moreover, we feel it is unethical to gather hundreds of physicians when there is a possible pandemic in their country. Even worse, if some of us get contaminated by attending the meeting, we could spread the infection further in our hospitals on our return.
We realize that this decision raises a lot of disappointment amongst the so many participants. We had received so many excellent abstracts (which will be published in Lupus Science and Medicine) and we had gathered the best speakers. Yet, the unexpected nightmare of COVID-19 lead us to take this well-balanced difficult decision.
We thank you for your understanding and look forward to meeting you on another occasion and in better circumstances.
With our very best regards,
Frédéric Houssiau and Nathalie Costedoat-Chalumeau
